APMEX is a US based precious metals retailer that has been in business for 15 years. Formally known as the American Precious Metal Exchange, Inc., the company first began in 1999. In 2004 it shortened and simplified its name to APMEX and soon launched its website. APMEX has since then grown to be one of the largest online providers of precious metals.
APMEX: Review of Key Features
Though APMEX first began as an United States only company, it began to accept shipments to Canada in 2009. It is now an international precious metal retailer that currently ships to 83 different countries from around the world. If you are interested in making a smart and safer investment with your money then AMPEX can help guide you in transferring your unreliable paper money into a more secure place with precious metals.
What Does APMEX Offer?
The company buys as well as sells gold, silver, platinum, palladium coins, bars, bullion and various mints. They are an authorized dealer recognized in the United States to purchase and sell United States Mint, Royal Mint, Perth Mint, Royal Canadian Mint, Krugerrand of South Africa and many other coins, bullion and bars from around the world.
It should be noted that to be acknowledge as an accepted company to distribute and purchase the US Mint is a very rigorous process that is a prime indication of how trustworthy APMEX is.
Does APMEX Provide IRAs?
APMEX also offers a wide variety of IRA products. These IRA products range from coins, bars and commemorative pieces. When choosing to open an IRA account through APMEX you will need to have a custodian account. If you already have a custodian account the company will work with you through your custodian account or they also provide a list of custodians that you can choose to work with.
Does APMEX Sell Coins?
What many serious coins collectors will benefit from when they choose to buy from APMEX is a vast variety of coins and bars, some of which have been out of production. Serious collectors will be surprised to find a number of rare collectible items ranging from stamped coins, bullion and bars. APMEX offers some of the lowest premiums available.
APMEX does accept orders for shipments overseas but one drawback here is the order must be at least a minimum of $1500.
One of the major stand-out features that APMEX offers is the acceptance of credit cards. Though there are additional fees attached to using a credit card for payment.
APMEX Reviews, Awards and Credibility
The BBB Accredited Business association has rated APMEX with an A+. However this admirable rating is tainted by an unusually high number of negative reviews.
APMEX also received a 4.8 out of 5 rating from TrustLink.
APMEX is also a member of a number of highly esteemed organizations in the precious metals industry. The Industry Council on Tangible Assets and American Numismatic Association are a couple of the organizations APMEX is associated with.
APMEX Review Final Thoughts
APMEX is one of the top precious metal distributors you can work with to not only find rare collectible coins but to also invest your money in a secure and more stable asset.
My one reservation about using APMEX would be the potential hassle of APMEX not being able to act as a custodian for your investments. As such, it cannot be considered a true "one stop shop".
I would also be concerned with their high number of complaints to the BBB.
